Use of WCA Sport'ers Discount site:
An internet site based rewards programme that can save WCA
members £1,000s on everyday goods and services.
The Welsh Sport'ers (short for Sport Supporters) Club has
brought together a vast range of specially negotiated discounts, with up to 60%
off goods and services such as DVDs, electrical goods, bikes, gifts, insurance,
and holidays.
In addition to providing discounts for members, the scheme
generates a contribution to the WCA in relation to each purchase made by the
membership. The Board of Directors have decreed that any contributions that the
WCA receives from the Sport’ers Club will be allocated exclusively for Access
Development.
Third Party Insurance
Third party insurance is provided for all members (including club members) in
recreation and competition. Public liability cover is provided for all coaches,
while voluntary coaches, professional coaches, not trading under a business
name, and officers of the WCA are additionally covered for Professional
Indemnity. The WCA and its affiliated clubs are covered for public liability and
professional indemnity in their activities.
BWB Waterways Licence
The licence allows canoeists to paddle 2000 miles of British Waterways
canals.
BCU Yearbook
The BCU yearbook is distributed to appropriate members.
Ceufad
Ceufad is the magazine of the WCA. It is an A4 format magazine with
information and sections on Access and facilities, Coaching, Disciplines, Clubs
and Calendar items taking priority. Key articles will be published and it is
produced on a quarterly basis to set deadlines.
Canoe Focus Magazine
Canoe Focus, the BCU magazine is distributed to Comprehensive Full and Youth
members and Full Basic members six times a year, providing information and
articles of interest from home and abroad.
Access and Facilities
The WCA has an industrious network of access
officers and can offer advice on rivers and stillwaters within Wales. A Canoe
Access line service is available, while Canolfan Tryweryn can offer advice on
canoeing in North and mid Wales. The WCA is now employing a full time Access
Development Officer.
Advice and Information
Members can receive information on canoeing across Wales, while the staff of
Canolfan Tryweryn and the WCA can provide specialist advice.
Rallies and Tours
The WCA and Canolfan Tryweryn organise tours at Canolfan Tryweryn and support the Teifi tour. In 2001 we ran a surf symposium, an open
canoe symposium, training for voluntary club coaches at Plas Menai and to
provide low cost, high impact skills courses in a number of disciplines.

Local level Competition
A number of competitions are provided by the competitive disciplines within
Wales. The most significant of these is the Welsh National Polo league, while
there are local competitions in Freestyle, Surf and Slalom.
National Competition
A national competition programme is organised by the federal organisations
and their clubs. Comprehensive members may take part in these national events,
while the WCA competitive disciplines provide training and competition
opportunities, which are supported by the Sports Council for Wales.
Coaching Service (qualified coaches)
The WCA administers the BCU coaching scheme in Wales. The service is
administered through the WCA offices, while Nigel Robinson is employed as
Coaching Development Officer with a remit to support the Coaching scheme members
and enhance the services provided.
CoDe (coaching scheme members)
This magazine is provided to all coaching scheme members, providing important
information to all coaches and key articles by leading coaches.
Discount on WCA Supplies
WCA members receive discount on supplies purchased from the WCA.
Voting Rights
An Annual General Meeting will be held in July 2002. This meeting is open to
all, although only Comprehensive and Basic Full members can vote at the meeting.
The meeting is preceded by circulation of an annual report and we hope that
members take the opportunity to become involved in the democratic process
employed by the WCA.
Clubs
A comprehensive insurance policy for club coaches and members, resources and access to a subsidised club coach education scheme are the main
features of this scheme that will allow greater reinvestment in the WCA
affiliated clubs in future.
Centres
The WCA operates a WCA Centre Approval Scheme that provide a number of
benefits.
Sports Council for Wales Grant Application
Every year the WCA submits a grant application to the Sports Council for
Wales to gain support for staffing, Club coach education scheme, and a
performance and excellence programme in the competitive disciplines. In 1999 the
WCA became involved in Clwb Cymru, a scheme to encourage and support junior
member initiatives within affiliated clubs. The WCA also has three part time
slalom coaches as part of the Sports Council for Wales funded "Coach Cymru"
scheme.
